Freedom Fest brought a lot of people together for the main event last month. It also brought people together Thursday afternoon for a special check presentation.
Fundraising from the event generated $1,700 for the All Veterans Memorial, and the check was handed off at the memorial Thursday. Ray Baquero of Vigilance Martial Arts, the sponsor of the Norwegian ruck march portion of the event, saw his involvement as a way to give back.
Dynamic Discs Events Coordinator Jackie Morris says the company is proud and honored to be part of Freedom Fest.
Freedom Fest celebrated its 20th year as part of Emporia’s All Veterans Tribute last month. It now includes run/walks and bike rides of varying distances, the Freedom Fest Open disc golf tournament, the Norwegian Ruck Challenge and the Will to Win Spur Challenge. Proceeds are split between the memorial, the 137th and 635th Regiment Scholarship Program for family members of veterans in those units, the USD 252 Honor Flight program, the North Lyon County Veterans Memorial Park and Enlisted Association of the National Guard of Kansas.
