The name hasn’t been divulged yet and formal charges are pending, but Lyon County Game Warden Aaron Scheve says one person has been arrested on suspicion of poaching deer.
Scheve tells KVOE News the incident allegedly involved an off-road shooting activity from a vehicle and happened in the 400 block of Road 260, about two miles north-northwest of Americus, Monday evening. Scheve says an alert resident called 911 as the incident was developing. The suspect was located and arrested shortly after that call.
Scheve says the suspect had collected three deer when he was apprehended. None of the deer had tags.
Scheve credited the help of Lyon County deputies and Kansas Highway Patrol troopers, saying they were “instrumental” in making the arrest.
This incident is roughly a mile east of a poaching incident Nov. 6 where a deer was beheaded. Scheve says there are no immediate connections to the cases other than their proximity to each other.
Regarding the Nov. 6 poaching incident, Scheve tells KVOE News the public has been helpful with tips and the investigation is making headway, although no arrests have been made.
Scheve is also investigating two poaching incidents from a year ago, one Nov. 6 near Roads 70 and X and one Nov. 16 near Roads 170 and T. Scheve says the 2022 cases are still open, but the trails have gone cold. New information will restart these investigations.
