Nine members of the Emporia High girls wrestling team placed at the Christmas Clash in Great Bend held Friday and Saturday.
Emporia High’s top finisher was Alexa Castillo who finished second at 235 falling in the championship match by fall in 1:34 to Ciara Rawson of McPherson. Virginia Munoz finished fourth at 140 and dropped a 6-2 decision to Bishop Carroll’s Alexis Means in the third-place match. During the tournament, Munoz recorded her 100th career victory. Katina Keosybounheuang finished fourth at 120 losing by a major decision, 10-1 to Tionna Napue of Hays. Heily Batres finished fifth at 105 and won the fifth-place match by fall in 3:43 over Haylie McDaniel of Scott Community.
The Lady Spartans had three wrestlers place ninth in their respective weight classes, Mia Rodriguez Esparaza (175), Yaneli Carranza (155), and Claire Starr (125). Eryn Templeton (135) was 10th. Breanna Wolf finished 11th at 145.
As a team, Emporia High finished eighth with 134 points. Emporia High will travel to Basheor-Linwood next Saturday for a tournament.
