Kansas Medicaid Inspector General Steven Anderson says the state’s Medicaid program made over $16 million in overpayments to providers, and Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach says the report highlighted “continued issues” when it comes to financial oversight of the state program.
Kobach singled out TransMed, the Transitional Medicaid Program. Kobach says Medicaid beneficiaries can get 12 months maximum of continuous coverage through TransMed, but state records identified over 9,300 beneficiaries who got at least 13 months of continuous coverage.
Kobach also says there were over 2,300 beneficiaries who had “unallowed” coverage before the COVID-19 pandemic, saying over $16 million in payments were “wasted” on ineligible people as of June 2022.
On top of that, Kobach says the state audit showed a lack of consumer education about TransMed’s program and a “lack of ease of use” when attempts were made to find information about the TransMed program.
