A house fire just south of Emporia early Thursday evening happened earlier than first planned, according to Emporia Fire.
The fire developed near an old house at 1477 Road J after landowners destroyed several barns and created a large burn pit. Firefighters say the initial plan was to burn down the older house Friday, but the house caught fire Thursday. The walls were left standing but the roof was demolished.
No injuries were reported. Other details are pending.
