Emporia Fire was among three agencies called to handle a structure fire early Friday, but they didn’t have a fire to handle.
Crews from Emporia, Americus and Olpe were dispatched to the 2000 block of Gloria just before 5:30 am. Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says firefighters quickly eliminated fire as a possibility. Instead, a malfunctioning sump pump caused some smoke inside the house.
No injuries were reported.
5:50 am Friday: Structure fire reported in west Emporia
A reported fire brought three different fire departments to a west Emporia home early Friday morning.
Crews from Emporia, Americus and Olpe were dispatched to the 2000 block of Gloria just before 5:30 am, but early indications show a malfunctioning sump pump, not an actual fire, caused smoke inside the house.
