All customers are back online after a significant power outage that developed early Sunday evening in portions of south and central Emporia.
The outage, reported just after 6:20 pm, affected customers from 11th and Commercial to Road 155 north to south and from Neosho Street to East South Avenue west to east. Over 800 customers were knocked offline due to the outage with that number being reduced to less than 40 before 7:45 pm.
All customers had power restored shortly after.
The cause of the outage was determined to be an “equipment failure” between Market and Union in south Emporia. In addition to customers, the outage also took several streetlights offline for a short time at the intersections of Sixth and Merchant, Seventh and Merchant, Seventh and Commercial and Eighth and Commercial.
No accidents were reported as a result of the outage.

Along with more than 800 Evergy customers, several streetlights in Emporia have been knocked offline as the result of a major power outage.
lights are off at all corners of the Sixth Avenue and Merchant Street intersection with Emporia Police directing traffic. Street lights are also off at Seventh and Merchant, Seventh and Commercial and Eighth and Commercial with no traffic control present at this time.
If you are approaching an intersection with no streetlight on, you are asked to approach cautiously and look both directions before proceeding. The outage affecting the streetlights was reported just after 6:20 pm stretching from south to central Emporia.
The cause of the outage, according to District Services Manager Rolland Trahoon II, is an “equipment failure” between Market and Union in south Emporia that took a circuit offline. Evergy crews are working to isolate the affected line, make repairs and get the circuit back online.

Over 800 Evergy customers are without power in portions of south and central Emporia Sunday evening.
The cause is a widespread outage reported just after 6:20 pm stretching from just South of Road 155 along South Commercial to the intersection of West 11th and Commercial north to south and from East South Avenue to Neosho from east to west. The cause of the outage is being determined.
