Formal charges are now finalized for a Marysville truck driver now accused of murder after a wreck near Emporia earlier this year.
Travis Duane Edwards, age 47, was arrested Monday afternoon following a five-vehicle fatality wreck April 5. Initially, Edwards was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder, aggravated battery and interference with law enforcement. The aggravated battery and interference counts were formally charged, while the legal complaint accuses Edwards of second-degree murder.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says Edwards’ semi went left of center for unlisted reasons and hit a westbound SUV driven by 67-year-old Timothy Hoekstra of Chino, California. Hoekstra’s vehicle then rotated into eastbound traffic and hit a westbound semi driven by 32-year-old Quintia Rowe of Norfolk, Virginia. Meanwhile, Edwards’ semi continued into westbound traffic before hitting an SUV driven by 29-year-old Ryan Miller of Independence, Missouri, and another SUV driven by 32-year-old Jacob Suenram of Lawrence.
Miller and Suenram were both pronounced dead at the scene.
9:20 am Tuesday: Marysville man arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder after April fatality wreck west of Emporia
Formal charges are pending against a Marysville man arrested in Lyon County this week on suspicion of murder after an incident this past spring.
Travis Duane Edwards, age 47, was arrested Monday afternoon by Lyon County deputies, although Sheriff Jeff Cope says the Kansas Highway Patrol led the investigation. Formal charges are pending, but Edwards was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder, aggravated battery and interference with law enforcement by concealing, altering or destroying evidence in a felony case.
Edwards’ arrest followed a five-vehicle fatality crash on US Highway 50 near Road C west of Emporia in early April.
