Numerous law enforcement agencies are banding together for a special traffic enforcement effort to ring out the old year and ring in the new.
Sheriff’s offices in Lyon and Chase counties, as well as the Kansas Highway Patrol, are among the agencies involved in New Year’s Taking Down DUI. Lyon County Deputy Jody Meyers says the period between Christmas and New Year’s Day outranks most other holidays when it comes to the number of wrecks where at least one driver is impaired by alcohol, drugs or both. Meyers also says drunk drivers will be caught — and DUI crashes are totally preventable.
Meyers encourages partygoers to avoid driving if they plan to drink alcohol. He also says revelers should line up their rides, either with a sober friend or other safe transportation, before heading out.
New Year’s Taking Down DUI goes from Dec. 26 to Jan. 2.
