Very soon, the David Traylor Zoo office will move back to its longstanding home.
Here’s Zoo Director Lisa Keith:
The office moved to the former home of the Emporia Gazette, 517 Merchant, to account for ongoing construction at the zoo as part of the nearly $5 million Oasis capital campaign. 2023 has been a big year for construction, with a new parking lot including bus parking and an expansion of the Zoo Education Center.
Keith says attendance this year could approach 90,000, and she says the expanded Zoo Education Center will be an added attraction for people to enjoy next year. Next year will see work on the king lemur, wallaby and cereopsis (seer-ee-YOP-sis) goose exhibits. More fundraising will be needed, but the plan is still to add North American river otters within the next year or two.
