Several local roadways are becoming water-logged and local law enforcement is asking drivers to exercise caution if out and about.
Lyon County Sgt. Zach Shafer tells KVOE News the Sheriff’s Office has already had one water rescue Sunday after a vehicle tried to pass through flood waters in the 1000 block of Road 190. The flooding follows constant moderate to heavy rainfall that began Saturday evening and continued throughout Sunday.
Lyon County road crews are in the process of barricading flooded roadways. Barricades have been placed at the following locations:
*Road 150
*Road 190
If you approach a roadway that is covered with water, regardless if it is barricaded or not, Shafer says not to try and pass the roadway and instead to “turn around, don’t drown” and find an alternate route of travel.
Drivers are also reminded it is illegal to drive around or move a barricade that has been placed on a roadway.
While the Christmas holiday began with more springlike precipitation, there are chances it could wrap up with more seasonal conditions.
There is a slight chance for snowfall across portions of the listening area Christmas morning and evening that could persist into Tuesday. The National Weather Service says little to no accumulation is expected with higher chances of accumulation closer to the Kansas-Nebraska border.
That being said, temperatures will also start to feel more seasonal with lows forecast in the upper 20s to low 30s and highs in the low to mid 40s into the upcoming New Year’s Holiday weekend. Stay with KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media for more weather updates as they develop.
