That’s all thanks to Healthier Lyon County. The coalition along with other Lyon the Blue Cross Blue Shield Pathway Grant and Healthier Lyon County.
Grant Manager Daphne Mertens, a recent guest on KVOE’s Morning Show, says the project has been in the works for eight months. A team from Healthier Lyon County in partnership with the Natural Resources Advisory Board was formed to help with funding for the raised gardens at Presbyterian Manor.
The gardens will be in Memory Care, Assisted Care, and Independent Living at Presbyterian Manor. Mertens says the gardens will be ready at the best time possible.
Mertens says they will meet again in January to start seed sprouting and get the necessary items needed. Mertens says this will also help residents with garden activities that they haven’t done in the past and be able to grow food in their current setting.
Mertens says working with local entities such as Prophet Aquatic Research Outlook Center (PAROC), the Natural Resources Advisory Board, K-State Research, and Lyon County Extension to know when pollinators need to show up to produce the most food possible.
