Residential trash collections are undoubtedly seeing an increase in volume following the Christmas holiday.
With that in mind, Emporia Solid Waste Supervisor Keith Senn joined KVOE’s Morning Show Tuesday to go over the do’s and don’ts of disposing of your holiday waste.
On top of residential trash pickup, several locations are now available for residents to drop off their live Christmas trees across the community. Drop-off points are available at the Lyon County Fairgrounds, Dillons and Guion’s Showcase parking lots now through January 3.
Residents can also take their trees directly to the Lyon County Transfer Station at 3100 West South Avenue during normal operation hours. Senn tells KVOE News trees will be disposed of in an air curtain burner which Senn says is 95 percent cleaner than traditional open burns.
With Christmas now wrapped up for another year, attention will be shifting to New Year’s, specifically New Year’s Day on Monday. With another major holiday coming at the start of the week, Senn says customers scheduled for trash pickup that day will have their waste collected on Wednesday, January 3.
