As New Year’s Eve traffic enforcement efforts pick up speed, pardon the pun, the Kansas Highway Patrol has finalized its report for the Christmas enforcement period.
Troopers noted zero DUI-related fatalities between Dec. 23-26, the third straight Christmas period with no DUI fatalities. However, there were two non-DUI fatality crashes with two people killed.
Troopers also had seven DUI arrests, below the 16 from last year and the 15 from 2021.
Speed citations were also down — 370 this Christmas period compared to 416 from last year and 377 from two years ago. Safety belt citations were down for both adults and teenagers from last year, although child restraint citations were up slightly.
Troopers, deputies and police officers across Kansas are now into the “New Year’s Taking Down DUI” enforcement effort through Tuesday.
