An investigation involving a Wabaunsee County child and authorities has led to a lengthy sentence for a Colorado man on child sex abuse crimes in Florida.
The Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Office says a child and the child’s family reported a person had been sending lewd images and messages to the child via Snapchat and a cell phone. An investigation by Sheriff’s Corporal Jonathan Sumner led to Miles Steven McGough — and evidence McGough was contacting as many as 30 additional child victims in several jurisdictions, using deception and threats to receive and transmit child sex abuse materials and to transmit obscene photos of himself.
Colorado authorities continued the investigation, identifying as many as 24 additional underage girls as victims. They also say McGough flew to Florida and raped an underage girl that he had groomed online for several months before the incident.
McGough was arrested in Colorado, extradited to Florida and sentenced to over 19 years in federal prison for child rape. Once that sentence is completed, McGough then goes back to Colorado to spend 20 years in prison for more crimes against children.
