The Emporia State basketball teams wrapped up 2023 at White Auditorium on Saturday.
The Lady Hornets used a 10-0 run in the first half to take their first 20-point lead on the way to a 90-62 victory over Bethel College. ESU hit 8 of 11 3-pointers in the first half on the way to a 51-33 halftime lead. Three Lady Hornets matched or surpassed their career high in scoring in the game led by Faith Paramore’s 24 points. She picked up her fifth double-double of the year while grabbing 10 rebounds. Senior forward Aliyah Bello matched her career high of 17 points and Elizabeth Milligan notched a new personal best with nine points. The Lady Hornets improve to 6-5 with the win.
The Emporia State men used a late 12-0 run in the second half to put away Friends for a 64-50 victory. It was a historic game as head coach Craig Doty picked up his 250th career victory. Darius Yohe turned in a triple-double for ESU with career highs of 11 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 blocks. The 11 blocks is a single-game ESU record. Alijah Comithier led the Hornets with 19 points while P.J. Johnson had career highs with 13 points, four 3-pointers, and six rebounds.
Emporia State resumes their MIAA schedule on Wednesday when they host Newman. Pregame coverage begins at 5:00 p.m. on Mix 104.9. The women’s game is scheduled to tip at 5:30 p.m.
