The University of Kansas Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center’s COMET Study is now in its third year and Emporia State Univeristy’s LEAP program is seeking additional volunteers.
LEAP! Director Erin Blocker says they currently have two cohorts taking part in the study, 3-5 participants, and are aiming for 25 by year five. The overall goal of the COMET — Combined Exercise Trial — study is to see how the brain responds to resistance training, cardio, core infusion training and a combination of resistance-aerobic training.
The study is open to residents between the ages of 65 and 80 who speak and read English conversationally, are medically cleared, have reliable transportation and are “underactive.” LEAP!’s involvement in the study was announced last February and will continue until the study’s completion.
Aside from an individual’s pre-testing, six-month testing and post-study testing, all training will take place in Emporia at Emporia Fitness.
If you would like to participate in the study you can call 913-588-0555 or email Blocker at Eblocker@Emporia.edu.
