Emporia’s recent spate of chase-related arrests continued after sunrise New Year’s morning.
Emporia Police Capt. Ray Mattas says 26-year-old Julio Rolando Blanco Godoy of Emporia was arrested Monday morning. The incident apparently started with an alleged traffic infraction at Sixth and Mechanic, but the vehicle pursuit was called off in the 600 block of Union due to safety concerns. Shortly afterward, Godoy allegedly crashed near the Emporia Senior Center and fled on foot.
Mattas says Kansas Highway Patrol troopers found Godoy in the 600 block of Lincoln and arrested him on suspicion of flee and elude and DUI. Formal charges are pending.
This follows the chase-related arrest late New Year’s Eve of Brett Wempe of Emporia and a separate arrest early New Year’s Day of John Petz of Emporia. Formal charges are pending against both men.
