Temporary visitation restrictions are now in place in a section of Newman Regional Health with respiratory illnesses on the rise.
According to a news release from the hospital, as of Tuesday children under the age of 12 will not be permitted to visit the hospital’s labor and delivery unit on the fourth floor. Siblings under the age of 12 will be permitted to visit so long as they undergo a screening for any symptoms of cold or fever.
In the aforementioned news release, Newman Infection Prevention Specialist Tricia Parks says this is a traditional step during the winter months due to a seasonal rise in respiratory infections. Current expectations are for the restrictions to remain in place through the end of the winter season around March or April.
In addition to the restrictions, the hospital is asking all residents to avoid visiting Newman if they are feeling unwell or have experienced any of the following symptoms within the past seven days of their visit.
*Fever
*Coughing
*Sore throat
*Diarrhea
For those unable to visit the hospital, patient greetings can be sent via Newman’s website newmanrh.org/patientgreetings. For questions or more information visit Newmanrh.org or call the hospital at 620-343-6800.
