Graduate forward Darius Yohe has been named the MIAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week to begin 2024. Yohe had the first triple-double of the NCAA era for Emporia State in the Hornets’ 64-50 victory over Friends on Saturday. Yohe had NCAA career highs with 11 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 blocked shots. It was the first triple-double by an MIAA player since Ryan Hawkins had one in March of 2021. It is also the first recorded triple-double to include blocked shots in MIAA history since triple-doubles became an official NCAA stat. The 11 blocks set the ESU single-game record surpassing the ten blocks by Marcellus Steide against Washburn in 1993. Yohe leads the MIAA in blocks and is third in the country in blocks per game this year. Yohe also recorded his 1,000th career point on Saturday. Emporia State returns to action Wednesday to host Newman at White Auditorium. Pregame coverage begins with the RV Doc Pregame Show at 5:00 p.m. on Mix 104.9.
