DUI arrests were up considerably over the last two New Year’s Day enforcement periods, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
Troopers noted 29 DUI arrests between Dec. 29-Jan. 1. While the number may not seem like much, it’s higher than the 22 from last year and it’s nearly triple the 11 from two years ago.
Speed citations, speed warnings, teen safety belt citations and child restraint citations were all above numbers from the past two years.
There were no DUI fatality crashes for the third straight year. There was one non-DUI fatality — the death of Admire resident Dylan Moellenberndt, who was walking on Interstate 35 when he was hit by a semi near the Burlingame Road exit Dec. 30.
