Fire destroyed a shed in central Emporia early Thursday evening, and Emporia Fire is still investigating the cause.
Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage says the shed at 406 State was already fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived around 5 pm. Crews put the fire out quickly, and there wasn’t a lot of extension to nearby structures.
The fire caused an estimated $7,000 in damage, destroying the shed — which was built using wood pallets.
No injuries were reported.

Investigators are trying to determine how fire destroyed a shed in central Emporia early Thursday evening.
The fire developed at 406 State just before 5 pm. Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage says firefighters found the shed was fully involved in flames as they arrived. Crews put the fire out quickly, but the house had some melted siding as a result.
Steinlage says the shed was built using wood pallets.
No injuries were reported. State was blocked between Fourth and Sixth for about an hour.
Americus and Olpe fire departments were called out as mutual aid.
