The Emporia High boys swim team resumed its season Thursday with a 9-team invitational at the Emporia High pool.
Emporia High finished third as a team with 296 points finishing behind team champion Washburn Rural and Seaman. Emporia High’s top finish came from senior Ian Navarro who finished second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:16.69. Navarro also finished fourth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:39.63. Navarro said it was a good day in the pool.
Also recording top-five finishes for the Spartans was the 200-yard medley relay of Broden Podrebarac, Noah Coltrane, Shane Anderson, and Navarro finishing fifth with a time of 2:03.88. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Tyler Luthi, Luke Marshall, Navarro, and Anderson finished in a tie for fourth with a time of 1:46.51. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Luthi, Coltrane, Podrebarac, and Marshall finished fifth at 4:14.57.
Emporia High coach Jaime Dawson said it was a solid day for the Spartans in their first meet back from the holiday break.
The Spartans will next be in action in a swim-only meet next Thursday at Emporia High. The Spartan divers will head to Topeka on Tuesday’s first meet of 2024.
