The Emporia High bowling teams kick off their season Saturday in the Wichita Invitational.
It’ll be a baker’s tournament for both teams.
The Spartans finished 10th at state in 2023 and return five from its state team with Morgan Liggett, Colton Swift, Devin Mohling, Nate Green and Adam Kamprath. Swift finished 11th at state last year with a 670 series and is one of 10 boys bowlers to watch in Class 5A according to KSHSAA Covered. Green was a regional champion last year.
Liggett says he’s excited for both what the returners and newcomers can do for the team.
The Lady Spartans finished eighth in 2023 at state and return three off the state team. They are Danika Williams, Taylor McKay, and Nikki Morrow. Williams, who is the Lady Spartans’ lone senior, says the upperclassmen will help the underclassmen out with their first meets at the varsity level.
Emporia High coach Amy Martin says both teams will learn about what they can accomplish this season.
Emporia High’s first home meet will be on January 23.
