Pride Month is still several months away, however, Emporia’s Pride committee is hosting a special event for a special individual next month.
Emporia Pride will be holding a combination drag show and watch party homecoming event at the Emporia Granada Theatre on February 9 featuring Emporia’s own Q who is one of the contestants on the current season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Event organizer Orion Turner says next month’s show will be slightly different from other drag shows that have been held locally in years past.
RuPaul’s Drag Race began airing in 2009 and currently consists of 16 seasons. Since its inception, the show has gained tremendous popularity and praise winning multiple Prime Time Emmy Awards.
Turner says to have an individual from Emporia featured on such a major platform is something worth celebrating.
Tickets for the event are currently on sale ranging in price from $15-$20 with a $120 VIP experience and $500 “Super Deluxe” package also available. All proceeds from the event will go to support Emporia’s 2024 Pride Celebration in June.
As part of Friday’s interview, Turner announced this year’s festival will be taking place a bit later and longer than in years past. This year’s Pride activities will span over three days from June 20-22.
