Formal charges are pending for a man arrested following a reported kidnapping and standoff with Emporia Police that began Monday evening and concluded Tuesday morning.
According to the Emporia Police Department, 43-year-old Daniel Olivarez allegedly forced his way into a home in southeast Emporia armed with a handgun around 11 pm Monday. Olivarez supposedly held an undisclosed number of victims in the home until approximately 8 am Tuesday at which time he reportedly had one of the victims drive him to a separate location in south central Emporia.
Emporia Police were able to locate Olivarez in a shed that was located in the backyard of a residence at that location and a roughly 3-and-a-half-hour standoff would ensue and end with Olivarez surrendering peacefully. He was arrested and taken to the Lyon County Jail on several charges including aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery, violation of a protection order, criminal threat and interference with law enforcement.
Formal charges are currently pending.
