After having the last two games postponed due to weather, the Emporia High basketball teams will resume their season Friday in a Centennial League doubleheader at Junction City Friday night.
The Emporia High boys enter the game with a 5-2 record and a 1-0 mark in league play. Junction City is ranked No. 7 in Class 6A with a 7-1 record and a 1-1 record in league play. The Blue Jays are coming off their first loss last Friday to Manhattan, while Emporia High has not played since last Tuesday’s 58-42 victory at Hayden.
Emporia High boys coach Lee Baldwin said it starts with taking care of the basketball.
Junior River Peters said the Spartans have to limit the Blue Jays’ top two players, Jackson Austin and Larkin Turner.
Before the boys matchup will see the fifth ranked team in 5A in Emporia High with a 6-1 record and a 1-0 mark in league play. Junction City is 0-8 on the season and 0-2 in league play. Junction City was held to a season-low nine points in last Friday’s loss at Manhattan, while Emporia High is seeking its fifth straight win.
The Lady Spartans will be without head coach Carolyn Dorsey for the game due to a prior commitment. Senior Teegan Baker said they just need to continue to play at their prime.
