Kansas families who have school-aged children could soon get a special payment as part of a federal program.
The Supplemental Pandemic Electronic Benefit, or P-EBT, is a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting American Rescue Plan. It’s designed to help school-aged kids who got free or reduced meals through the National School Lunch Program in the 2022-23 academic year that ended this past June.
Qualifying families will get a one-time benefit of $120 per child to be used on eligible food from approved retailers accepting food assistance benefits. Distribution will be “auto-issued” through a direct process between Wednesday and Jan. 26. Parents and guardians who don’t receive a benefit this month but believe their children are eligible can request the benefit using DCF’s self-service portal.
