A Council Grove man is awaiting word on formal charges after being arrested on suspicion of illegal drug activity and child endangerment.
A news release from the Morris County Drug Enforcement Unit indicates Council Grove officers went to 23 North Fourth in Council Grove around 8:45 pm Friday in an effort to serve a trespass notice to the resident, 35-year-old Thomas Hutchinson. As they served the notice, officers learned Hutchinson had an unspecified but active warrant for his arrest so he was taken into custody.
During the arrest process, officers found Hutchinson to allegedly be possessing a firearm — which he can’t do after a felony forgery conviction in Lyon County dating to 2019 and theft and identity theft convictions in Morris County in 2019 and 2018, respectively.
With that information in hand, authorities searched the house before arresting Hutchinson on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of a hallucinogenic drug, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, aggravated child endangerment, interference with law enforcement and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
