The Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce is getting ready for its Annual Meeting by starting to announce its award winners.
Chamber President and CEO Jeanine McKenna says Clark Carpet & Tile is the Business of the Year.
The business started in 1976 with a small showroom at 3302 West Sixth and has grown since then despite a fire at an adjoining business which completely destroyed the showroom in 2011. The current location is triple the size of the showroom before the fire.
Separately, McKenna announced Karen Belford as the Chamber’s Volunteer of the Year.
Belford has been an active member of the Chamber for over two decades. She is an Ambassador Committee member and volunteers for the annual Christmas Parade Committee and community events. She also attends the Chamber’s Group Lunches and Business After Hours events.
Announced Tuesday was the Lifetime Achievement Award which will be presented to local veterinarian Dr. Duane Henrikson. In addition to his career as a veterinarian, Dr. Henrikson has been a notable presence on various state veterinary boards including serving as president of the KVMA in 1998 and also played a major role in the David Traylor Zoo’s multi million dollar Oasis Capital Campaign.
Still to come is the announcement of this year’s Community Impact Award recipient.
The Annual Meeting is Jan. 26 at Emporia State’s Memorial Union Webb Hall. Ticket availability is limited.
