Monday saw at least two reported injury wrecks in the KVOE listening area.
The first one happened around 7 am at Kansas Turnpike mile marker 106 southbound, just over 20 miles southwest of Emporia and about six miles southwest of the Flint Hills cattle pens. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, two SUVs were involved — one driven by 45-year-old Peter Hornung of Ottawa and and another driven by 70-year-old Gerald Sylvester of Cedar Falls, Iowa. Troopers say Hornung rear-ended Sylvester’s SUV, sending it into the center barrier wall.
Hornung was not hurt. Both Sylvester and a passenger, 75-year-old Linda Sylvester, also of Cedar Falls, were taken to Newman Regional Health with suspected minor injuries.
Another one happened shortly before 1:30 pm on Interstate 35 near Road S, or near mile marker 136. A car driven by 30-year-old Jimmy Sewell of Fort Wayne, Indiana, was following a pickup driven by 30-year-old James Bean of Fargo, North Dakota. Bean slowed down for a KDOT snowplow and Sewell’s car rear-ended the Bean truck.
Sewell was taken to Newman Regional Health with suspected minor injuries. Bean was not hurt.
