Cashless tolling comes later this year to the Kansas Turnpike. When it does, there will be a significant change in tolling.
Currently, tolling involves a set fee for travel between different exits or terminals. Starting this summer, there will be a flat, per-mile rate based on axle count and whether the vehicle in question has a K-TAG transponder or is identified by license plate.
The Turnpike Authority says this will benefit a lot of short-distance travelers through lower payments because prior practices like rounding to the nearest nickel or quarter are no longer needed.
With this step now announced, the Turnpike Authority is expanding its customer service call center hours. Those will be 7:30 am-6:30 pm weekdays. There will also be a new K-TAG logo unveiled soon.
