The Emporia State track and field team won ten events with two provisional qualifiers at the UCM Invitational on Friday in Warrensburg, Mo. Both the men’s & women’s teams finished second overall. Hornet All-American Travis Morrison threw the shot put a personal best 59 feet-1 1/2 inches, the third best throw in ESU history. Mele Taula was a provisional qualifier throwing 45 feet-1/4 inch, the fourth best throw in the MIAA this year.
Ty Anderson won the men’s long jump with a jump of 22 feet-3 inches while Jayda Harris won the women’s triple jump with a mark of 34 feet-6 3/4 inches. Ashley Cockson finished second. Ashley Wildeman won the women’s 200m while Isaiah Durman won the men’s 200m. The Hornets also swept the 3000m run with Tayler Williams winning the women’s event and Tyler Swift winning the men’s race.
Other Hornet winners included Jack Watson in the mens’ 400m and the Hornets also won the 4x400m relay. ESU had nine runner-up finishes and 13 third place results. ESU returns to action at the Herm Wilson Invitational in Wichita next weekend at the Heskett Center at Wichita State.
