Winter is making another appearance to start the week, but the National Weather Service Wichita forecast office is turning part of its attention to the traditional spring severe weather season.
The Wichita office has announced the schedule for its annual Storm Fury on the Plains spotter training classes. For Chase and Greenwood counties, the information is as follows:
March 4: Eureka High School auditorium, 6:30 pm
March 25: Chase County Community Center, 6:30 pm
Presentations typically last 60-90 minutes and delve into different kinds of storms, cloud features that indicate a storm’s severity, severe weather safety and hazardous weather reporting procedures.
The Wichita office is also considering at least one virtual presentation.
The National Weather Service Topeka office will announce its schedule soon.
Last year saw a supercell thunderstorm drop eight tornadoes in Chase County in mid-April, with the historic Chase County Courthouse narrowly missed by a tornado and the Cottonwood Falls baseball field having some damage.
Once again this severe weather season, KVOE will keep you informed with updates, field reporting and information from our volunteer KVOE Storm Team spotter network.
