Residents served by Coffey County Rural Water District 2 are getting another reminder to conserve water as best they can.
The district has been under a mandatory water conservation request since Thursday, but Coffey County Emergency Management says water use soared Monday. Reasons have not been listed.
District 2 covers an area from just south of Emporia and Hartford to just south and west of Burlington.
Burlington and New Strawn are also included in the mandatory conservation request, which is ongoing until further notice. Burlington has reported several confirmed or suspected water leaks as the likely source for elevated water use during our freeze-thaw-freeze cycle over the past 10 days.
