Construction is officially underway for Coffey County’s new law enforcement center.
Sheriff Tom Johnson tells KVOE News this will mean drastic improvements across the board for law enforcement, prosecution and inmates.
Johnson thanked Coffey County residents for their vote in favor back in August 2022.
Groundbreaking took place in frigid conditions last week. Johnson says the center should be ready for use by June 2025.
The new complex in Burlington will include space for almost 100 beds, as well as the sheriff’s office, dispatch center and county attorney’s office.
