The Emporia High basketball teams are in action on Thursday.
The Lady Spartans open up the Glacier’s Edge Tournament facing Wichita Southeast in the 2-7 matchup. Emporia High has won five straight and is 7-1 while Wichita Southeast is 4-6 and has lost its last four games. Emporia High coach Carolyn Dorsey said it starts with energy and toughness.
Senior Zayda Pearson says the Lady Spartans need to take it one game at a time.
Tipoff is set for 7:45 p.m. at Spartan Gymnasium with the RV-Doc Pregame Show beginning around 7:25 p.m. on KVOE. All games will be played in the main gym starting at 3:15 p.m. with top-seed Highland Park taking on Lawrence Free State. At 4:45 p.m. will be the 4-5 matchup between Blue Valley and Shawnee Heights. Before Emporia High and Wichita Southeast will be Derby and Hutchinson at 6:15 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Emporia High boys will travel to Junction City for a make-up game originally scheduled for January 12. It’ll be a matchup between ranked teams with the Spartans ranked No. 10 in 5A at 7-3, while Junction City is ranked ninth in 6A with a 10-2 record. Emporia High coach Lee Baldwin said the Spartans need to keep the Blue Jays out of the paint.
