It was quick work for the Emporia High girls basketball team in its Glacier’s Edge Tournament opener against Wichita Southeast at Spartan Gymnasium.
After trailing 2-0, the Lady Spartans took command and never looked back in a 62-27 victory over the Golden Buffalo. Emporia High led 25-11 at the end of the first quarter which turned into a 35-21 lead at halftime. The Lady Spartans led 51-21 heading into the fourth quarter with a running clock.
Addie Kirmer led Emporia High with 27 points while Lexsey Dewitt recorded a career-high 14.
Emporia High girls coach Carolyn Dorsey said it was a team effort to win its Glacier’s Edge opener while extending its winning streak to six.
Emporia High is now 8-1 on the season. The Lady Spartans will face Derby in the second championship semifinal at 7:45 p.m. Friday. Derby defeated Hutchinson, 55-43. The RV-Doc Pregame Show will start around 7:25 p.m. on KVOE. The other championship semifinal will occur at 6:15 p.m. with Highland Park taking on Blue Valley. Highland Park defeated Lawrence Free State, 70-39, while Blue Valley defeated Shawnee Heights, 58-47. Shawnee Heights and Free State will meet in the first consolation semifinal at 3:15 p.m. with Hutchinson and Wichita Southeast to follow at 4:45 p.m.
