Jim Witt says he plans to work closely with business partners, the city of Emporia and Ignite Emporia as he settles into his newest role with Emporia city government.
Witt was named as interim president for the Regional Development Association of East Central Kansas earlier this month, following the resignation of former president Chuck Scott. On KVOE’s Morning Show on Friday, Witt said the project pipeline — listed with at least 50 different items by Scott before his resignation — will keep progressing.
Scott was placed on paid administrative leave for unspecified reasons shortly before Christmas and resigned earlier this month. Scott had replaced Kent Heermann, who had led the RDA for 27 years before retiring in early 2022.
Early indications are the city would like a new leader in place by mid-summer.
Witt came to Emporia as interim assistant city manager in 2013. He has served as the city’s special projects coordinator on a part-time basis since 2016. Before his time in Emporia, he was a city administrator in Dodge City and Coppell, Texas.
