There was a lot of smoke, but no fire in the 700 block of Sixth Avenue Monday afternoon.
Emporia, Olpe and Americus Fire crews were called to 712 West Sixth for a reported structure fire shortly after 2:05 pm. According to Emporia Fire Batallion Chief Eron Steinlage, the cause of the call was food left on a stove inside an apartment unit at the address.
He tells KVOE News the incident did cause the building to fill with smoke, however, no actual fire was located. Crews remained on scene for roughly half an hour to clear the smoke from the building and westbound traffic was down to one lane for a short time.
No injuries were reported.
