Kansas hasn’t had a Presidential Preference Primary in 30 years. That’s changing this year.
Lyon County Election Officer Tammy Vopat outlined important dates of note on KVOE’s Morning Show on Monday. From her vantage point, there will be no operations adjustments needed between the presidential primary and the upcoming primary or general elections.
Voter registration ends Feb. 20 for the presidential primary. Advance ballots go out by mail Feb. 28, early voting begins in the Lyon County Courthouse on March 4 and the traditional offsite voting event will be March 9 at the Fairgrounds Anderson Building. Advance voting ends at noon March 18.
Four Democrats and four Republicans are on the presidential ballot:
Democrats
*Joseph R Biden Jr
*Jason Michael Palmer
*Dean Phillips
*Marianne Williamson
Republicans
*Ryan L Binkley
*Ron DeSantis
*Nikki Haley
*Donald J Trump
DeSantis is included on the ballot even though he recently ended his campaign.
The traditional primary election is Aug. 6, followed by the general election Nov. 5. Already, Lyon County Register of Deeds Wendy Weiss and County Treasurer Sharon Gaede have filed for re-election.
This also comes as No Labels Kansas has been approved as a minor party for the upcoming elections as reported earlier this month by KVOE News.
