Two blood drives are on tap locally, and both involve Emporia schools.
Walnut Elementary is hosting a drive from 1:30-6:30 pm Tuesday. Emporia Middle School has a drive from 8:15 am to 1:15 pm Wednesday.
Besides an opportunity to win a Super Bowl package — tickets, a $1,000 gift card, hotel accomodations and more — the Red Cross Central Plains Division is urging donations because the blood supply is critically short. Nationwide, the Red Cross missed out on at least 15,000 donations in January due to bad weather conditions. Supply, both regionally and nationally, has been urgently to critically low for years.
