The Emporia Senior Center now has its biggest fundraiser back on the schedule after a nearly six-week absence.
Bingo returned to the Senior Center on Tuesday, and about 30 players attended.
Bingo had been pulled from the schedule for a variety of reasons, including poor weather, staffing concerns and — most recently — the resignation of former president and CEO Ian Boyd. Senior Center Board President and Interim Director Jan Loux was pleased with how the night went, in part because the facility is using the restart of bingo as a reset to get the community re-engaged with the center. Loux says part of that re-engagement process will be a new event coming soon: Coffee and Chat on Mondays.
Bingo is now on the schedule Tuesday evenings and Saturday afternoons, although the Senior Center Board has had conversations about possibly moving Saturday bingo to Sunday. A decision on the weekend bingo schedule may be made within the next three to four weeks.
The Senior Center has other community events on the calendar, including pinochle Monday and Thursday mornings. It’s also looking for board members, committee members, donors and volunteers. People can call 620-343-3160 with questions or to get more information.
