The Emporia Community Foundation has named its next leader.
Linda Kehres, current director of the KU Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, is set to replace longtime director Becky Nurnberg following her retirement this spring. Kehres joined KVOE’s 7:05 am newscast to discuss her new position. She says she’s thrilled to be the Community Foundation’s new leader.
Kehres brings a plethora of non-profit leadership experience to the role including leading Let’s Help, a Topeka based nonprofit agency, which was recognized as the Topeka Nonprofit of Distinction during her tenure. In 2017, Kehres herself received the Go Topeka Women of Influence Recognition and Rising Star Award and is also a graduate of Leadership Kansas.
Nurnberg is set to retire as executive director on March 29 after leading the agency for the last seven years. Kehres says there have been initial conversations between her and Community Foundation leadership.
Having served the Emporia area for nearly 30 years, the Community Foundation now oversees better than 375 individual funds with assets totaling over $42 million. It is known for its annual Match Day fundraiser benefiting nonprofit agencies across the KVOE listening area, but it also provides funds for grants, scholarships and a range of community projects, awarding over $4.2 million last year.
