Two Emporia Spartan Boxers are on the hunt for national titles this weekend in Missouri.
Edgar Gomez (106 lbs) and Zaiden Ortiz (170 lbs) are competing at the Silver Gloves National Tournament in Independence, Missouri. Up first will be Gomez who will compete in the evening session Thursday.
Ortiz earned a bye and will advance to the semi-finals on Friday. Both competitors advanced to the national tournament with victories at the regional competition in Nebraska back in early January.
Gomez won his opening regional bout by referee stoppage in the first round and advanced via walkover in the finals. Ortiz earned a decision victory to punch his ticket to the national tournament.
