Three Wichita residents are now in custody in Lyon County following separate arrests Thursday and Friday.
According to Emporia Police Captain Lisa Hayes, 27-year-old Deshawn Hammond and 33-year-old Kayla Stokes were arrested and booked into the Lyon County Detention Center around 5:30 pm Thursday. Both were arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal possession of a firearm with Stokes also booked on suspicion of forgery.
A third arrest came Friday afternoon following the execution of a search warrant by EPD, the EPD Special Response Team and Kansas Highway Patrol at 724 Wilson Street shortly after 1:30 pm. According to Hayes, one individual surrendered and cooperated with authorities. Another occupant, later identified as 34-year-old Alexander Rose of Wichita, barricaded himself inside the residence for roughly an hour before surrendering to authorities.
Rose was arrested and booked for an outstanding warrant through the Kansas Department of Corrections, details of which have not been divulged. Hayes says the arrests came as part of an investigation into “multiple cases involving narcotics, firearms, forgery, shoplifting, theft and identity theft.”
Formal charges are currently pending against all three individuals.
Friday’s standoff came at the same location as a separate incident between local authorities and Dwayne L. Ford in June of 2023. Ford and local police were involved in a nearly four-hour standoff that ended when Ford surrendered and was taken into custody without incident.
