Emporia Spartan Boxing had a strong showing at the 2024 Silver Gloves National Tournament this weekend, ending with a top-two finish for one competitor.
Zaiden Ortiz (170 lbs) advanced to the championship finals in his weight division via a bye in the opening round and a decision win in his semi-final bout Friday. Ortiz would lose via referee stoppage to finish as the national runner-up.
This is the highest national placement Spartan Boxing has had since it began three years ago. Also competing this weekend was Edgar Gomez (106 lbs) who would lose via decision in his opening round bout.
Up next for Spartan Boxing will be the 5th annual Las Vegas Masters Boxing Championship tournament which will see Spartan Boxing’s only master’s competitor Robert Sieberns in action on February 24th and 25th.
