The Emporia State softball team picked up its first win of the season in its final game at the Mankato Dome Tournament on Sunday.
In ESU’s first game of the day, ESU lost in a run rule 8-0 to Minnesota State. The Lady Hornets were outhit 13-1 in the game and trailed 6-0 after two innings. Both teams were held off the scoreboard until the Mavericks tacked on two in the sixth to end the game. Abbey Ward had E-State’s lone hit of the game with a fourth inning bunt single. Jordan Harrison (0-1) took the loss for ESU after lasting 1.2 innings and surrendering five hits and six runs.
ESU turned it around in game two with an eight-run second inning as the Lady Hornets pounded Southwest Minnesota State 11-0. Alexis Dial drove in two runs in the first inning before ESU exploded for six hits and took advantage of three walks and two Mustang errors in the second inning. Juliana De Luna and Dial each drove in three runs for the Lady Hornets with Ward, Hayley Garnett, Bailey Flewelling and Dial each picking up two hits in the game. Josie Harrison (1-1) went the distance surrendering just one hit in the circle while striking out three to pick up her first win of the year.
ESU is 1-5 heading into the Alvy Early Memorial Classic next weekend in Bentonville, Ark. There they will face six teams from the Great American Conference and the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
