Sentencing is coming next month for a man involved in an Emporia standoff last summer.
Dwayne Lamont Ford, age 55, recently pleaded no contest to one count of aggravated assault against law enforcement after an incident near USD 253’s Mary Herbert Education Center in late June. Ford was initially charged with four counts of aggravated assault, as well as one count of interference with law enforcement and a count of domestic battery. The remaining charges were all dismissed.
Ford was arrested after alleged involvement in a domestic disturbance at 724 Wilson — the site of an unrelated alleged standoff late last week — and allegedly greeting local law enforcement with a machete in hand.
Sentencing is tentatively set for March 13. Ford could spend up to 46 months in prison and be fined up to $100,000.
