The Kansas City Royals signed Bobby Witt Jr. to the longest and biggest contract in franchise history on Monday. The deal amounts to a 14-year contract extension with 11 years guaranteed. It’s worth $288.7 million and includes player opt-outs after the seventh, eighth, ninth, and 10th years of the deal. The Royals also have a club option to sweeten the deal after the 11th year and add three years and $89 million to the contract giving the signing a max value of $377 million. Witt slashed .276/.319/.495 with 30 home runs and 49 steals last year with elite defensive numbers. The Royals will attempt to surround Witt with talent after failing to do so in his first two years in the big leagues. The Royals have gone 121-203 the past two seasons.
